Next Generation Science Standards for Today’s Students and Tomorrow’s Workforce: Through a collaborative, state-led process managed by Achieve, new K–12 science standards have been developed that are rich in content and practice, arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education. The NGSS is based on the Framework for K–12 Science Educationdeveloped by the National Research Council.
The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is a private, non-profit society of distinguished scholars. Established by an Act of Congress, signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the NAS is charged with providing independent, objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology.
CrossCutSymbols: The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) include 7 Crosscutting Concepts that are the big ideas that connect the sciences and help to understand nature. Students who understand the NGSS crosscutting concepts will have a deep framework for integrating and understanding science ideas.
